Some Picoarmor

Between painting Swedish regiments for the Great Northern War Maurice project, I dug into my 3mm (1/600) picoarmor to put together a few extra bits to fill out a scenario for the next game night. This stuff is just lovely, shame I am such a lousy photographer (not that I am much of painter either..). I did a battalion of Crusaders, terrain, some air support (Hurricanes and CR.42s) and a few Italian support units.

Some Swedes for the Great Northern War

I finished two more units of Swedes for the GNW- Maurice project. These are Strelets, we have one unit of heavy horse in cuirass, and a unit of foot including a base of pike. Strelets are less refined than Zvezda, but they are very interesting to paint. Every pose is unique and well-animated, the detail while coarse, is also quite deep or raised, which makes them quite fun to paint.

El Cid complete

The last unit for my October Games Day is a squad of Christian militia crossbowmen, I now have ~2500 points per side for the big game.

.

I also did a few Celtic chieftains for a WAB game next week. These guys are great, real characters:

And I am very proud to present the first few models (GW LOTR we picked up at a swap meet) painted by my daughter Sasha (age 9). Her favorite is Arwen. We also played through the four intro scenarios in Mines of Moria and she successfully won them all!

North Africans and Military Order Spanish for El Cid

Getting close to finishing the El Cid project for WAB. Figures are all Old Glory, here are some North African skirmishers, zebra pattern shields:

Knights of the Order of Santiago, founded in 1170, with crossbow-armed retainers:

I have just a few peones and jinetes left to finish.

Bit of this and that...

I have done bits of painting over the last couple of weeks, I picked up a copy of Heroquest to play with the kids and a huge haul of Lord of the Rings models at a recent swap meet for them to learn to paint. That's a project I might blog at a later date- the 9-year old is not bad for a beginner. I also obtained some old GW Adventurers from Terry (ta!) and painted some of them to use in Heroquest. I quite like them- very colourful characters:

And while awaiting an order of 1/72 Swedes for Maurice, I also expanded my Spanish 1/72 stuff for my next Lasalle game. These are 1806 Prussians by Hat, I chose them for the bicorne which just seems so stylish it works for the Spanish:

Not just the artillery, but the cavalry too:

On the go I have my 28mm El Cid stuff to complete in preparation for an October games day. Just finished off the Almoravids, now to get to the Christians.
