And next comes something completely different ... ASOIAF

Towards the end of January I finished off my Mantic stuff including Clansmen:

Scarecrows:

Spectres:

A Reaper Bones model who will work as the Ice Queen:

And a unit of Arctic fox chaff:

Then for my birthday, I plunged into A Song of Ice and Fire by Cmon games. I have been admiring the miniatures and after watching a bunch of battle reports and reading reviews, the game sounds very good. So, I picked up the Starter and here is my first unit of Lannister guardsmen:

More fun with contrast paints ... and welcome 2021

I have been fairly busy hobbying but unmotivated to post - not sure why that is. I find it useful to keep track of projects here and to occasionally share and hear from co-hobbyists. Somehow COVID makes everything a chore!

Anyhow - here is the assortment of stuff I have done over the past few weeks including the holidays. Almost everything done with contrast paints as I test them out:

More Mantic Clansmen:

Mantic Scarecrows:

Mantic Spectres:
Reaper townies

Assorted Reaper adventure figures:

Reaper big orcs and a bat covered tombstone:

Mantic Snow Trolls:

GW Dwarves

A Reaper worm
Mantic Butchers:

Mantic assorted Nightstalker figs:

I now have about a dozen or so contrast shades and have experimented with mixing them to get some of the intermediate shades for the Nightstalkers. I think they work pretty well on figs that have a lot of rough textures, not so great on smooth surfaces.

VC army

I finished off the last required elements for my Vampire Count army this weekend and here we have it arrayed in it's darkness:

This weekend I put together these spirit host bases, I won't likely start the game with them on the table but they can come into play as a consequence of a VC summoning spell:

Revenant cavalry (black knights) with wight king:

Revenants (tomb guard) with the Daphne vampire:

Skellie horde and supporting ghouls and zombies:

Dire wolves:

Ghouls:

Spirits:

Vampire lord and army standard:

Banshee and crypt wraiths:

I have also been gaining momentum on this El Cid project. I have 30 Berbers now finished, a combined bow and spear unit:

Mantic Revenant Cavalry

This week I finished a unit of Mantic's Revenant Cavalry that I will run in my Vampire Counts army as Black Knights. They are quite good, unlike the other stuff I have done these are resin models. Nice details, bit of a pain to assemble though, superglue prefers human flesh to resin.

At the van is an old GW Wight Champion who I will run as a Wight King to lead the blood knights. He's a very good melee character in a VC army with high Ld.

Here are the leader, standard and musician:

In these photos I also tried to be a less-crapful photographer, so I fiddled with the light settings to try to get more depth and less blurriness in the pics. Let me know what you think.

I have remaining a vampire lord, some fell bats and spirit hosts to fill out that army, then it is done.
