10mm Confederate regiments

Here are 10 regiments of Rebs in 10mm, mix of figures from Old Glory (back row) and Pendraken (front row). I have a slow burn ACW project on the go that I managed to make a dent in this month. I am thinking of Altar of Freedom or something else grand scale - Battle Cry is always a possibility too.

"Hanoverian" Napoleonics and the best-ever-tin

Apologies for being out of touch for a while, the family and I spent 10 days in Florida building beach fortifications:

And after we got back, I head-swapped some vintage Airfix Prussian Landwehr with Hat British infantry heads to create a couple of units of Hanoverian militia for the Waterloo project. Yes, I know that Hanoverian militia wore most British uniforms in 1815 by the time of Waterloo, but I was inspired by the unit cards from Sam Mustafa's Blucher to do something different with them so that they stand out. Plus, these are genuine vintage 1980s Airfix figures and I wanted to find a place on the table for them. Left the flags in dark blue since I have no idea what to do with them.

Finally, the missus found the World's Best Tin Box at a garage sale down the street - it rocks!

Lego Minifig for scale below- I shall use this very useful box to store unusually tall and unwieldy models - such as High Elf chariots and dragons that have very tall profiles.  Score!!!

1/72 Napoleonics and Red Devils

Feeling a bit unfocussed recently, so been doing a bit of this and a bit of that. Here we have a box of Hat Napoleonic French light infantry, which are needed for the ongoing Waterloo project:

and a few Italeri British airborne. Sculpts are okay but Esci sculpted some goofy poses.

And my dog looking sad because she has only been on two walks and had one breakfast so far today.

Early medievals and the rebasing conundrum

Over the past two weeks I painted a few small units of 28s for Lion Rampant and/or Saga. These were of Byzantine archers:

 Armenian archers by Perry:

Armenian crossbowmen by Perry:

And then played around with the thought of rebasing my 20mm British paras on unit stands for a company level game (stand = squad), then thought better of that and tried to make a magnetic skirmish tray that would hold 4 models to represent a squad - not sure if this works or not, so I bought another box of paras to do on unit stands just in case.

I must be nuts, it's bad enough to have some armies in multiple scales (e.g. 1944 Brits and Imperial Romans I now have in 3 scales each) but based in multiple formats within the same scale. Aieee...

Landsknechts

I did my remaining Foundry Landsknechts based for DBA-RRR - hoping for a conversion to DBA 3.0 one day. These were fun to paint - free to use any part of the colour palette after all.

A diversion in scale

10 or so years ago the missus bought me a surprise model kit for my birthday. It is a 1/35 Trumpeter Challenger II main battle tank in KFOR markings - not really my scale or genre, but the thought counts plenty. It has resided on my shelves for some time, waiting for a rainy day.

Well, on a snowy day over the Xmas holiday I broke it out and made a start, after about a dozen sessions over the last few months, quite a bit of fiddly bit frustration with my clumsy fingers (e.g. only one of the wing mirrors survived) it is complete, and here she is:

I don't reckon it will ever get on the table in a game - but it will take a place of honour on the shelf of glory.

A bunch of awesome stuff

Well, I have a bunch of cool stuff to put up today. For Christmas I got the European Farm set in 20mm from 4Ground (the laser cut and pre-painted mdf models) and last weekend I finally put it together. Several observations: first, this is an excellent product - internal and external details are great, buildings are multiple levels and come apart, etc.. Second, it was fun to put together, instructions were clear and everything fit perfectly. Third, great company to work with. My box set ended up short one of the buildings (the grey farmhouse) so the missus wrote to them (since she bought it for me) and the house is winging it's way over now. I subbed the the white farmhouse (bought previously) to hold down the SW corner in the photo.

The second goody in the pictures is the AWESOME game mat that I just received from Cigarbox. This is printed on a fleece like fabric, and it is just beautiful. They are pricey (mine ended up 85CDN), but the guys at Cigarbox are superb. With 3 chums at the club we ordered 4 mats - so he gave us a discount and comped the postage from the US. Really, how awesome is that?!?!?! Really pleased with this purchase.

Finally - in the foreground are two battalions of Imperial Guard Grenadiers by Zvezda in 1/72 that I worked up over the last two weeks. Great figs, as one expects from Zvezda, I did these in preparation for one or more Waterloo games this year. It is the 200 year anniversary, after all.
