Valiant fallschirmjaeger and a 1/48 Ba-64

This week we have some more fallschirmjaeger by Valiant - oversize 1/72 models.

I also completed a nice little 1/48 Ba-64 Soviet armoured car kit by Tamiya. This was another Christmas gift and I wonder whether actual mixes with Valiant 1/72... I was planning on using these fallschirmjaeger for Bolt Action with Scott facing his 28mm French - my guys will be undersized but perhaps not ridiculously. Of course I won't use the Soviet armoured car but I was thinking about picking up another 1/48 kit perhaps a panzer II or a 222 to give my guys some light armored support.

This photo compares a Valiant 1/72 and a metal RAFM 20mm fallschirmjaeger - the Valiant is much bigger - perhaps true 25mm scale with oversized heads. But he is almost comparable to the 1/48 crewman in the Ba-64.

If anyone out there has an opinion,

What do you think of the Valiant range?
Can one get away with using them on the same table - perhaps not in the same unit or same side - with 28s?

Early war fallschirmjaeger, a Gloster Gladiator and some more British guns

Worked up some stuff for a Crete game I would like to host later this summer.  Well, neither of the guns are suitable, but I might use the 2-pounder to stand in for a second Bofors gun in the Heraklion paradrop scenario since I only have one Bofors.

An old Hinchliffe 2-pounder ATG

 An Airfix 25 pounder

First batch of some Valiant fallschirmjaeger - HQ section and a 50mm mortar team. I like the Valiant figures very much - the sculpts are oversized with large heads, but from 3 feet away I like the way they look. They are also very easy to paint because the detail is clear and well raised.

And finally, something to sit on the airstrip at Heraklion - a vintage Airfix Gloster Gladiator. Simple little kit that was a gift from my mother-in-law's beau who is a flea market picker extraordinaire.

Last British regiments for Quatre Bras and some stuff for Crete 1941

I completed the remaining two elite infantry regiments for the Quatre Bras orbat for Blucher, they are both Highlander and I intended them to represent the 42nd and 92nd regiments (Black Watch and the Gordons). I also completed the Airfix Bofors gun kit I picked up from Terry (truck already assembled) and a RAFM MkVI Vickers - perhaps my favourite early war tank. These are for a Crete scenario I would like to host, perhaps using Bolt Action.

Early war allies in 1/72 & 1/35

I worked my way through a Tamiya 1/35 Chenillette over the last couple of weeks which was fun to build (great kit!) and something different for a change. This was a Christmas present last year.

I also completed an Airfix Matilda in 1940 colour scheme, and a couple of Lorraine 37L carriers and an R-35 tank in 20mm by RAFM. I did these to play around with my airbrush and try to get the tone I wanted for the Chenillette (Vallejo brown violet). I didn't do multi-colour camo on the R-35 so it could stand-in for models in service with other countries.

1/72 6-pdrs and 10mm Hanoverians

Rainy long weekend here in Alberta so there is stuff getting done - so far I knocked off one of the old Airfix 6-pdr kits plus an extra gun cobbled from my bits box -these may have a role to play in the upcoming next chapter in the Operation Martlet campaign. Also finished are two regiments of Hanoverian infantry for Quatre Bras from Magister Militum.

Nassauers

It's been a while since my last post since we took the kids to Florida for a short spring break. Since coming back I finished a couple more regiments of 1815 allies - Nassau infantry and a Belgian hussar regiment.

I also experimented with a basing sabot for 10mm fantasy figs. I picked up Pendraken's Warband rules and quite like them for 10mm massed fantasy battles, here I am thinking of using my Battle of the Five Armies GW troops, but the rules require large bases. Here I have fit 3 40mm bases on an 80 x 40 with a dice holder in one corner to mark the unit morale. Might work...
