10mm Afrika Korps

I finished a big batch of 10mm Pendraken Germans for my Western Desert project this week.

Vehicles - white/middlestone/earth wash/dark yellow and buff drybrush
Infantry - white/middlestone/sepia wash/desert yellow or green yellow or russian uniform/sepia wash

10mm French reinforcements

I completed a batch of 10mm WW2 French from Pendraken ordered back in the Fall. I also ordered some decal which I think really make the tanks in their distinctive camo pop.

Plan is to use these for my MayDay game - a scenario based around the battles at either Hannut or Stonne.

WW2 ... in two scales of course

I started the year off with some 10mm Pendraken desert rats and a FOW Assault Platoon led by Feldwebel Schmidt for my FOW mid-war Heer platoon. The assault platoon is supported by a flamethrower squad and is designed for dislodging Russians in close-combat.

The 10mm Brits are from Pendraken and they are okay - the sculpting is fine but the pose number is a bit limited and they have very thick bases which are hard to hide unless you putty the stand, which is too much of a hassle for 10mm IMO.

10mm Middle Earth

Not a lot of production this month since I have been doing some travelling for work. However I did finish a few stands of delightful Pendraken 10mm fantasy stuff. They have published a very good mass battle ruleset called Warband that I would like to try using my Battle of 5 Armies troops and some additional stuff from their fantasy range.

I just completed stands of wizards, wolf-riders, ogres, command and spiders. I also used a micro dice frame on the base as a way to track hits.

ACW bits and bobs

Some remaining accessories for running an Alter of Freedom game, including 2 HQs populated with stretcher bearers, ambulance wagons and bystanders. I also completed 20 fatigue or casualty markers. All are 10mm by Pendraken.

And here are the Union forces for Pea Ridge - 7 brigades of infantry, 2 of cavalry, 4 artillery stands and two commanders. 10mm figures are mostly Pendraken with some Old Glory strips making up the back ranks of the infantry stands.

Union troops are by the far the easiest force to paint I have yet encountered.

10mm Confederate artillery and cavalry

Here are the remaining elements for the Confederate order of battle for Pea Ridge using Altar of Freedom. Two cavalry, four artillery and a general - in this case Johnston standing in for Van Dorn.

Nice figs - all Pendraken, I'm really impressed with them. Starting to make me wonder about doing more 10mm - it is such a nice compromise between mass and detail.

10mm ACW and WW2

After about 2 weeks of work travel I got home on Friday and found a bit of hobby time to work on some projects in 10mm. First I have some early war German tanks from Pendraken that I like enough to order more of. There are 38ts and 2 early IVs here for a Barbarossa scenario I have in mind. I prefer a light grey to bring out the detail in small scales, and those with Nazi flags denote command vehicles:

Then I also tried my hand at 10mm ACW figs for Altar of Freedom - grand tactical ACW rules where each stand is a regiment. These are a mix of Old Glory strips of 5 (rear rank) and Pendraken singular figs (front rank). These were fun to paint, I will follow up with more as this project builds. Like this scale for the compromise between size and massed look, plus they go fast with a block and wash techniques that I would only use for smaller scales.
