The Punic Wars project moves on, here are 18 Republican Roman Principes by Gripping Beast.

Hastati

First batch of Republican Roman heavy foot - here are 6 bases of Gripping Beast hastati. Shield decals by VVV turned out nice I think.

Warlord Early Imperial Romans

This is the last box of Imperial Legionnaires from Warlord and finishes my EIR army in 28mm. I'll assemble all of it for pics in the next week or so.

Here we have 11 bases of regular old legion including an extra command stand. I think they look spiff - now if I can only settle on a ruleset I like for them. I have ample colourful enemies for them, including Picts, Gauls and a Sassanid army in progress.

28mm Warlord Legionnaires

Here we have a box of 30 Early Imperial Roman legion by Warlord. The figures are good, the shield transfers look nice but were a complete pain in the butt - they don't adhere well to the curved surface. I tried all the tricks - pva, gloss undercoat, Future, vinegar to help soften. Any hints? I can't seem to find and microset or microsol anywhere local, but maybe that is what I need.

Late Roman command and cavalry

The last few stands for my MayDay game are complete, these a couple of stands of cavalry and a commander. Foundry again, shield decals are Warlord auxilia leftovers but do the trick:

Auxilia palatina

Slow month on the paint table, busy month at work including a week in a hotel conference room in Ottawa adjudicating a national research grant competition, followed by a week of recovering from a nasty rhinovirus one of the other group members brought back from Africa. Thanks for that!

But I did finish a few more stands of late Roman foot for my MayDay game in the meantime- these are auxilia by Foundry. Now I just have a few stands of mounted to finish and it's ready to go.

Warlord Auxilia

I finished a box of Warlord Games Roman Auxilia - these guys - in 28mm for my MayDay game.

Nice figures, really nice, but they are a bit over-animated for my taste which makes them hard to rank up. I based them on 30 x 60mm frontage so they can be used for DBA.

I am thinking of running a Dacian Wars battle for my big MayDay game. I have some Foundry and Warlord Dacians, as well as a horde of Sarmatian cavalry. My quandry is which ruleset to use - I picked up the Hail Caesar supplement over Christmas and it has some nice ideas for scenarios, and Hail Caesar is a good participation game for a Con. Although I prefer WAB ... I dunno...

Augustus and the Praetorian Guard

Here we have the Emperor Augustus and his bodyguard in 28mm by Warlord Games. Super models, gotta say I love painting Romans. I now have Imperial Roman armies in 4 scales....

Romans done, 6mm moderns

Just finished the forces for two of the Roman Civil War CCA scenarios pitting Caesar vs Pompey. Here we have some medium legions, light cavalry and commanders.

And also some modern microarmor that I picked up at a club auction a little while back. Here we have some some Sheridans done in my first attempt at NATO 3-colour camo scheme. I have always wanted to do some Cold War stuff, mid 80s central Europe, but I have not yet found scenarios or rules that work for me. Suggestions welcomed!

Pompey's Legions

Here are some more 10mm Romans, this time we have Marian legionnaires in lorica squamata and some archers. I use the red shields to designate these as heavy or veteran infantry for CCA, blue shields will be medium, and I use some green in the archers, slingers and javelinmen to designate them as lights.

10mm Auxilia

Some more 10mm Romans as I work towards a couple of Civil War CCA scenarios between Julius Caesar and Pompey.

10mm Romans

Here we have the first few cohorts of 10mm Romans that I've picked away at over the last couple of weeks. They are very easy to paint and look good en masse- I decided to base them on 60mm frontage for DBA, but also decided to work up a couple of CCA Civil War scenarios pitting Pompey versus Caesar. In doing so I will end up with a Late Imperial DBA army and a Marian Roman army - using one for Pompey and the other for Caesar.

8 bases of legion (160 figs!) and one of cavalry

Can't decide whether to go with thick or thin bases...

Medium cavalry - they might look good with shield transfers.

Clibinarii and equites sagittarii

Here we have two stands of clibinarii and three stands of equites sagittarii in 28mm for my late Roman army project, figures are Foundry.

 

Why do they do this?
