NVA heavy weapons company

The last of my 15mm Vietnam troops - here we have a heavy weapons company  with heavy mortars, recoilless rifles and anti-anticraft mounted HMGs. Battlefront figures again.

NVA regulars

Here we have a company of PAVN regular infantry from Battlefront. I'm thinking of hosting another Bolt Action Vietnam game - I have enough VC and NVA infantry to run something like a Rorke's Drift style overrun of a firebase scenario.

Viet Cong and a UH-1 Gunship

I took a diversion in southeast Asia for the last 2 weeks - finished off a box of local forces and a Revell 1:100 UH-1 gunship for use in a modern Bolt Action adaptation for the next club night.

The VCs are 15mm from Battlefront, the UH-1 is perfectly in scale at 1:100. Nice little kit - but I'm all thumbs so made a mess of the tiny windows and resorted to painting them. Ugh...

Some Reaper Bones adventurers and a few ACW

The kids have expressed some interest in trying D&D so I painted up a few models from my Reaper Bones lot for colour. I have the 5th edition starter kit and that should provide a more than ample introduction to it. One of the nice features is that the Bones lot contains quite a few female models, and that helps broaden the appeal to daughters.

Plus a couple of stands of 10mm ACW cavalry to fill out the order of battle for a game of BattleCry I plan to host at the club tomorrow night.

Men-at-arms and billmen for Lion Rampant

I finished a batch of foot knights and bills/halbardiers for the next game of Lion Rampant. These guys fill out a 36 point warband of free company troops. The figs are from Old Glory and are really very good.

ECW reinforcements

Here we have a couple more ECW regiments. These pictures were taken with my new Samsung tablet. Spooky good new Toy!

Which way to base the ECW dudes?

I did another couple of ECW units - some roundhead trotters and another regiment of foot. This time I finished the base with sand and static grass. The last one I did with green flock. Green flock is a bit easier and has a tidy look, but sand and grass is more mature.

Dear reader - which do you prefer? Of course - I would use one for Parliament and the other for the King...

ECW - big or small?

A little while ago I picked up a 10mm ECW starter kit from Pendraken - enough figs for a few regiments of pike and shot, a few cavalry, and some artillery. I painted a regiment of foot over the weekend and here they are:

I like them - and I like the small footprint. They are based on an 80mm frontage.

The picture below compares them with a similar sized (in figs) unit of 28mm Warlord troops which have a frontage of 180mm:

As much as I enjoy painting 28s - and they sure look great - the problem with them for ECW is the size of each unit. I can only really play on a 6 x 4 table - with each regiment taking up more than half a foot of frontage - there is only so many units I can get on the field before it just gets too crowded.

Now my decision is whether I take the plunge and go for 10mm in a serious way... but I have three complete 28mm ECW armies on the shelf at home now.

Any thoughts?

M1 Abrams and Austrians!

In typical Dave fashion, this week I have different scales and completely different genres.

First we have 4 battalions of Austrian 10mm Napoleonic infantry. These are Old Glory 10mm strips (which I love) that I picked up in a lot on Bartertown. Now I need some wee eagle transfers for the flags - the only ones I can think of would be shield transfers from VVV. If anyone has a better idea, please let me know!

Then I have 14 M1 tanks recently refitted after soaking in oven cleaner for a week to bring them down to bare metal. Again - a job lot from TMP this time. They have a date with destiny in a Team Yankee scenario I have in mind.

PS- is anybody out there anymore?

Big and Small

Just finished a few more Reaper Bones models for my "swamp" themed Dragon Rampant warband. I reckon I could run the big guy at the back as a single model Elite Infantry (6 point) unit. The three lizards could be run as a unit of heavy infantry (4 point), not sure about the two snakes. The medusa fig is pretty cool - maybe she should be a lone shooter model unit (4 point)?

Unable to find any Dullcote in Edmonton last weekend, I picked up a bottle of "matte" Rustoleum varnish. Guess what? It's not very matt - more like satin. But I suppose that's okay for reptiles.

I also did some "small" stuff - these are GHQ 6mm Soviet infantry for the next Team Yankee scenario I plan to run at the club.

Goths, Soviets, and Kobolds!

Over the past couple of weeks I worked up a variety of stuff - first we have 4 units of 10mm Gothic infantry who can represent any late Dark Age infantry or perhaps militia of Rohan. Figs are by Magister Militum I think:

I also worked up a dozen kobolds for a reptilian-themed Dragon Rampant warband that I plan to do using the box of Reaper Bones figs I bought in the kickstarter some time ago. These aren't bad - a bit comical but they paint up easily enough.

Then finally a bunch of Soviet modern microarmour for my next Team Yankee game - this is the remainder of a lot I obtained in a swap after stripping and repainting. There are assorted artillery (the monstrous 2S19 152mm howitzer Msta in the background!), IFVs, and modified IFVs.
