Just finished some cheap and grim looking Celtic slingers. These are the Wargames Factory models. Mixed results I think. I like the flexibility, but some stiff poses seem inevitable.
Not sure if I am sold on the wash either, I used GW sepia on the flesh areas and it seems a bit overwhelming and dark. It's a good product, the fault is mine for perhaps going a bit heavy.
Have you tried Ogryn Flesh, it's not as strong as Gryphon Sepia?
ReplyDeleteYep, I like it for leather but find it a bit too red for flesh.
ReplyDeleteI really these. The shields are great. Are they Little Big Men Studios? As for the wash, I think it is fine, but if you don't like it you should try the "soft" Army Painter sometime. It is very light. I know you have reservations about AP, but I may have a half-can around for you to sample.
ReplyDeleteI have some cavemen on my blog that were done with it. I was really pleased with the results. I think you would be, too.
Yeah, those cavemen are pretty wicked.
ReplyDeleteLol. I just saw that I wrote, "I really these". I meant to add the word, "like". Honest. I'm not developing old-timers. I was half watching Grimm on TV at the same time. Sorry 'bout that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Scott.
Those are just the stick-ons that come in the box, a nice feature of the early Wargames Factory stuff. Although they are difficult to get right- I wreck about 1/4 of them.
ReplyDeleteI think I just need to tinker with the dilution a bit. I prefer the GW and Vallejo washes because they are non-glossy and dry with a matte finish.
Nice painting, love the shields!
ReplyDeleteThe orange tunic colour is quite fetching--what is it?
ReplyDeleteCinnamon apple craft paint by Apple Barrel highlighted with an old GW/Citadel orange- not sure what it is called, but it is an awesome orange. I find my Vallejo and craft paint oranges are lousy.
ReplyDeleteYes, my oranges are all too bright and cover poorly. I will look for the cinnamon the next time I'm out. Thanks.
